Collective Worship - The Legal Position
Both Aided and Controlled Church Schools must ensure that Collective Worship
- satisfies the legal requirements of DFE Circular 1/94 Religious Education and Collective Worship
- is consistent with the school's Trust Deed i.e. Distinctively Christian with Anglican elements
- is supported by a Collective Worship Policy statement drawn up by the Governors, in consultation with the Headteacher
Trust Deed
The Trust Deed is the original conveyance of land for the school. Trust Deeds usually specify that the land was given in order to provide 'religious instruction and worship according to the principles and practices of the Church of England'.
