bath & wells: services for children and young people schools & colleges
Categories of Church of England Schools
The 1944 Education Act provided the framework for the present way in which the
Church is involved in schools by creating two broad types of Church school: the
Aided and the Controlled.
The 2001 Dearing Report summarises the differences between the two categories.
Further details can be obtained from the Diocesan Education Department and from www.natsoc.org.uk.
