bath & wells: mission
World Mission Group
Aims of the World Mission Group
To encourage and enable the Church in the Diocese of Bath and Wells to exercise
its common mission with the world-wide Church, as per the Anglican Consultative
Council's 5 Marks of Mission:
- To proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God.
- To teach, baptise and nurture new believers.
- To respond to human need by loving service.
- To seek to transform the unjust structures of society.
- To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the
life of the Earth.
Priorities of the World Mission Group
- To encourage parishes to become more aware of the above, recognise that they
are part of the world-wide church and understand that what they do as a body
and as individuals has a global effect. Help them to participate in appropriate
activities aimed at redressing the unjust structures of the world. A particular
priority is to build on the strengths of the foundation laid by the success of
the Jubilee 2000 Coalition as a campaigning body, involving as it did co-operation
between secular and religious organisations; between different Christian denominations;
and between different world faiths. Also to build on the new spirit of co-operation
and involvement between Government departments (DFID) and the churches on the
subject of global poverty reduction.
- To work in partnership with the Mission Societies and Christian aid agencies;
and to encourage support for them at parish and diocesan level. This includes
support for the societies as a whole and for specific individuals such as Mission
Partners with connection to Bath and Wells.
- To maintain and strengthen the Diocese's partnership with the Anglican
Dioceses in Zambia; and to encourage and support other parish links and exchange
visits between ourselves and the Zambian Church in order to help listen to each
other, pray for each other, challenge each other and learn from each other.
