bath & wells: school of formation
Schools of formation
When someone learns about scripture or the Church's tradition it is normally know as theology. Theology has perhaps not had the best of reputations over the years, yet at its heart it is about knowing God, knowing of God and knowing about God - crucial to the devlopment of faith - but this is not the only way to learn.
When people in church involve themslves in activities on behalf of the church they engage in ministry. Being a Churchwarden, visiting, welcoming people to services, leading a homegroup are examples of the kind of activities that people might like some training in.
We also learn from prayer, worship and contemplation. Spirituality forms our being and what we do. The lives of the saints and learning to be still is so important in the busy world of the 21st century.
Finally mission is a source for learning. We might learn how to be involved in mission, and we can also learn from mission about the world and its challenges.
These four areas of faith are the headings for the courses the School offers. Look at the course list and you will see they are distinguished under the four categories. Min - ministry, Mis - mission, Spi - spirituality and The - theology.
