bath & wells: school of formation
course facilitators
Course facilitators are local people appointed by a deanery or Local Ministry Group to lead courses. They might lead courses on differing subjects such as prayer, homegroup leadership, sharing faith etc. or they might lead one particular course many times. They are not paid and they are accountable to the leadership of the deanery or Local ministry Group.
The School of Formation supports them in three ways. Firstly we offer a list of courses. Since learning isn’t simply for learning’s sake, a course facilitator might be involved in the planning for change in a local area. The change could have some learning needs and the list of courses could be helpful to see what's on offer. Secondly, the School can provide materials for courses. This is produced on a CD or email and the facilitator then leads the course and prints off the materials for it as appropriate. Thirdly the School can offer the faciltator a briefing about the course material beforehand, adult education skills if necessary and support as it is run.
People who have become course faciltators
are homegroup leaders, clergy, people who have a brief for training in their work, readers etc. They are not experts. They are people who have an interest and some skills in learning and teaching and are willing to use them to help their local church and community.
We are currently developing a specific forum area of this website for Course faciltators which will include useful resources such as the first letter which might be sent out to recruit people for a course. See here for one that was used for the Reading in Church course.
If you are interested in becoming a course faciltator, contact your Rural Dean, local incumbent, or Local Ministry Group leadership and then contact the School for a more detailed ministry specification.
