Millennium Development Goals

The Diocese of Bath and Wells is committed to take local action in support of the
UN Millennium Development Goals or MDGs.

Together these eight goals represent a commitment by the world's governments to overcome global poverty by 2015.

The MDGs are also about achieving a better world for all God's people.  As such, they relate to a core part of the Diocese's Changing Lives agenda.

Promotional Resources

The Diocese has developed poster sets and an exhibition that explain and illustrate the MDGs. They are ideal for church displays.

Each set has 10 parts and each goal is illustrated with photographs showing the work that the Anglican Church in Zambia is doing to meet the MDGs. The pictures were taken during a partnership visit to several Zambian dioceses in May 2010.

There is a summary poster/banner showing all eight goals and a final one with a new reading of the Beatitudes written by the former Bishop of Cape Town Christopher Gregorowski. The Bishop has said: "Irish musician Bono called the Millennium Development Goals 'the beatitudes for a globalised world'. This inspired me to see the eight Millennium Development Goals as Jesus might see them.’
