St Swithun’s marks Advent with village calendar

The congregation at St Swithun’s, Bathford  we have produced an special Advent Calendar depicting their village and setting the scene for the advent period.  All the illustrations have been painted by local artist, Cathy Adeane.

The calendar is entitled ‘A Village Christmas’ and it features a story on the back of the calendar which is to be followed during December, detailing the doors to be opened each day.

The story follows two children as they go round the village which is preparing for Christmas, wondering what has happened to the people and animals. It culminates in being drawn to the church, where the final picture is of a wonderful nativity.

Jenny Matthews of St Swithun’s says, “We hope it will portray the real meaning of Christmas and be a way that people in the South West can identify with a typical village in our area and the importance of its church.  All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go towards St Swithun’s.”
