The Rev Preb Simon Hill will be licensed as Archdeacon of Taunton and Warden of Readers at the annual Readers service on Saturday, 1 October. The service will take place in Wells Cathedral at 2pm.
The service will also be celebrating 150 years of Reader ministry in the Church of England.
Prior to his appointment of Archdeacon of Taunton and Warden of Readers, Simon was Director of Clergy Development for the Diocese of Bath and Wells. He replaces the Venerable John Reed who retired on 30 June after 37 years in ordained ministry.
The Taunton Archdeaconry covers the south and west of the Diocese of Bath and Wells: from north of Bridgwater to Exmoor’s Doone Valley, and along the border with Devon to Crewkerne. There are 191 churches and chapels within 186 parishes and 54 benefices.
