Connect January 2017 – In brief

Giving for Life – Continuing the Journey

Following the original Giving for Life report and resources (2009), a survey of 1,100 parishes across the country (2016) has shown that most are making real progress in adopting good practice. Letters have been sent to PCC Secretaries, encouraging PCCs to allocate 20 to 30 minutes to discuss how they are doing with giving and stewardship matters. For more detail go to the Giving for Life web page.

Local lottery funding opportunity

The stewardship team has been learning of a new way for local groups to raise money at a meeting run by Mendip District Council. A Mendip Local Lottery is due to be launched this year and similar lotteries are planning for South Somerset and Taunton Deane. Keep an eye on the Mendip District Council website for more information.

 On-line directory update

Those of you who have been continuing to access diocesan contact information via the website address will have noticed that this is no longer available. This is because since April last year we have been operating a new online directory. More information on the new database, and how to access it, is available on the online directory website page.

A welcoming church for all

St John’s in Glastonbury will be hosting a half-day exploratory session on welcoming lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) people on Saturday, 4 March. See the event calendar for more information.
