A new way of working heralds exciting opportunities for youth and children’s work. Taking the words of the great commission as inspiration, the diocesan Youth and Children’s team will support our parishes and deaneries wonderful work with children and young people in a new way, with three Youth and Children’s ‘Go Team’ advisers based in our archdeaconries.
Tony Cook, Assistant Director Youth and Children said: “The Go Team advisers will be archdeaconry-based so they can better support, resource and equip youth and children’s ministry. It will be a new way of working that links with our vision of ‘Living and Telling the Story of Jesus that is underpinned by the great commission to ‘go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’. Matthew 28: 18-20”
“Please pray for the new ‘Go Teams’ as we seek to work much closer with local churches and communities in ‘Living and Telling’ the story of Jesus amongst children and young people.”
This new way of working will allow for more collaborative work with Ministry for Mission, Archdeacons, Rural Deans and Deanery Synods to implement the youth and children’s aspects of Deanery Mission Plans.
Although the advisers will be archdeaconry focused for most of their time, they will join together for diocesan-wide youth and children’s initiatives, events and conferences. There will continue to be a central base for administration in Wells, meaning teams will be fully contactable and able to communicate what is happening in their areas.
In September 2018 the intention is to introduce an annual ‘Go Team’ internship programme for three young adults wanting to explore their calling and vocation.
The new Go Team positions are currently being advertised on the website with a closing date of 12 June.
