Swimming the Channel (and back!) for the Bishops Lent Appeal

Reverend Prebendary Sharon Crossman decided to swim the Channel this Lent – but in the safety and warmth of her local swimming pool.

She began her swim on 12 February and completed the 21 miles on 14 March after 18 early morning sessions – often with the pool all to herself.

Sharon is Rural Dean of Axbridge Deanery, one of the first deaneries to appoint a Lay Ministry Champion and has been using the challenge to raise fund for both the Bishops Lent Appeal, supporting Lay Ministry in Bath and Wells and Zambia, and St John’s Church in Highbridge.

Sharon was planning a well-earned rest after completing her swim challenge when a parishioner suggested she ‘run the tunnel’ back again.  So  Sharon is donning her running shoes to complete 50 km by Easter Sunday.

If you are inspired by Sharon’s endeavours, please consider donating to the Bishops Lent Appeal.  Text BISH18 and your donation amount to 70070. For example, to donate £10 your text should read: “BISH18 £10”
