The Dunster festival has its inaugural weekend on 25-27th May in the Priory church of St George. West Somerset Academy has opened their quiet space at the school and we hope this will lead to increased opportunity for reflection and quiet within the school day.
The church is busy in many ways in the area. The food cupboard is unfortunately greatly in demand and however much we would like to see it closed through lack of use, this seems unlikely. There is a small number of homeless people in Minehead and there are ecumenical initiatives through the Hope Centre to assist them.
We continue to be much blessed by the work of youth workers Lynne and Jess, in the schools and in many other facets of deanery life including activity days in the holidays. Jess is about to have a baby, which is great news.
The deanery continues to look for ways to reach out, such as chaplains working in Butlins and also the West Somerset Academies Trust. Churches at Selworthy and Timberscombe have begun ambitious projects to re-order their space so that toilets and serveries may be installed, together with other building work.
