Join the Bath and Wells pioneer rumpus!
Those at the grassroots in the Diocese of Bath and Wells are being offered a ground-breaking local learning opportunity.
From 2019, the Certificate in Pioneer Mission will be part of the diocese’s training offer, to be delivered in partnership with Church Mission Society (CMS); leaders in training for lay and ordained pioneers nationally.
The CMS Certificate in Pioneer Mission is open to lay people looking to develop their understanding of pioneer mission – you may be already ministering as a lay pioneer or feel called in this direction.
Tina Hodgett, Pioneer and Evangelism Team Leader says, “We’re looking for explorers and dreamers who want to follow their God-given dreams to reality; those who can see the culture gap between the church and the local community context and want to help bridge it.”
“We aspire to a culture of innovation across Bath and Wells. Being able to deliver this course locally as a CMS learning hub is just one way in which we are working towards this.”
The Bath and Wells CMS hub, to be known as the Holy Rumpus, establishes the diocese as an official partner and training provider in the CMS network.
Andrea Campanale, Pioneer Network Developer at Church Mission Society says, “CMS is very excited to be partnering with the Diocese of Bath and Wells on a new initiative to train lay pioneers. This will add to our growing network of pioneer hubs around the UK, equipping and resourcing lay leaders in the church to imaginatively engage in mission and create Fresh Expressions of church birthed out of diverse contexts.”
The CMS Certificate is based on six modules: What is Pioneer Mission?; Reading the Bible for context; Doing theology; Mission spirituality; Mission ecclesiology; Pioneering in the rural church. Investment from the diocese means the course is being offered at a cost of £210.
Bryce Tangvald, who initiated the Hope Station at Frome Market and is now studying the CMS Foundation degree course in pioneer leadership in Oxford warmly endorses the CMS teaching approach, saying, “The CMS pioneer training team exists to encourage and build up those who see new or unique way of doing mission and living out the love of Jesus. My natural talents are being fostered and I’m challenged to think way outside the box.”
The Bath and Wells course starts in May 2019.
Find out more and sign up to the special taster day on 2 February by emailing Tina Hodgett. The day will be led by Tina and Andrea Campanale and aims to help people explore whether the certificate is for them before applying for one of the limited spaces.
