Locking Deanery is among the larger deaneries in the diocese with 28 churches serving over 106,000 people in a wonderfully diverse range of rural, suburban and urban settings. It has an active Synod and leadership with specialist teams focusing on areas of opportunity such as rural ministry, students, seniors or new housing estates. With over 10,000 additional homes planned within the deanery by 2036 there is great potential for establishing more new worshipping communities, so please pray for wisdom and resources as we seek to respond strategically to these new opportunities whilst also supporting our wonderful existing churches.
It is exciting that in January interviews for a new pioneer post on the Bournville estate will be taking place, so we are really praying that the appointment will create the opportunity for a new worshipping community to develop there. We currently have one vacancy at St James the Great in Winscombe with All Saints Sandford so please pray for the right person to take up the post of incumbent.
As a deanery we have developed a mission action plan and committed ourselves to pray for our communities, to share ideas and resources and to encourage every church member to be active in mission and ministry. We are excited about our annual deanery ‘Service of Light’ hosted this year on 20 January at St. Andrew’s Congresbury with guest speaker Eddie Lyle, president of Open Doors UK. We are also planning a deanery mission training day and also a retreat later in the year.
Above all we simply pray that the Kingdom of God will come in Locking Deanery, and that we would be living and telling the story of Jesus as an integral and natural part of each of our daily lives.
Thanks for praying for us!
The Revd Tom Yacomeni
