Children’s Festival 2019: The Wonder of God – Earth, Moon and Stars
On Saturday 19th January the annual Children’s Festival was back at Wells Cathedral with around 300 children, parents, leaders and volunteers coming together for a fun and creative day.
The day began with a short act of worship led by Dean John, followed by workshops taking place in every corner of the cathedral. The theme of the day was ‘The Wonder of God’ and activities included visiting a planetarium to explore the stars; and meeting the chickens and thinking about how crops grow with Send A Cow.
There was also a Godly Play story session, a games zone, the chance to make your own cathedral clock and a journey through the giant labyrinth laid out on the floor of the nave; and all in the wonder-ful building that is Wells Cathedral!
The day concluded with everyone back together with the closing worship led by a group of young people from churches in Watchet, Minehead and Weston-super-Mare along with Cheryl & Andy from the Diocese Go Team and Bishop Peter.
Andy from the Go Team commented “There was a buzz from start to finish on Saturday. It’s always good to see children and their families having a great time together, but there was also a big sense of awe as they explored the cathedral and the various activities.”
Donna and her family travelled up from Ruishton near Taunton and really enjoyed the whole day. “We had a fantastic day with so many different activities, there was something for everyone and each activity gave us a talking point to open up some really interesting conversations.”
Harlee (age 7) said he really enjoyed it and wants to come again soon. His only disappointment is that it won’t happen again for a year! He particularly liked the creation story, making the animals, the labyrinth and the games in the Chapter room.
Cathy who brought a group from Locking Castle Church added “Thank you for a fab day, our families had a great time!”
A big thank you goes to all the volunteers who came and helped us put on this year’s event, as well as all the families and groups who made it so special. If you’ve any ideas for next year do get in touch.
