O Lord my God, you are very great.
You are clothed with honour and majesty, wrapped in light as with a garment.
You stretch out the heavens like a tent….
What if people have a natural instinct to worship God outdoors? What if there are fresh ways of worshipping that help Somerset folk connect with God more easily than in a building? What if you could experiment with forms of church that are based in celebrating God’s created world?
Enter the Outdoor Church Hub.
Whether you want to develop your existing outdoor church (forest church, beach church, campfire church or any other form of outdoor worship) or have questions about what Outdoor Church is and how to begin setting one up, we hope to start to give some answers to these questions at the launch of the Bath and Wells Outdoor Church Hub. The launch consists of three separate but similar events. The first two on Saturday, 16 March will be led by the author of the book ‘Outdoor Church’ Sally Welch, priest and practitioner of all age outdoor worship. The third on Sunday, 17 March will be hosted by Go Team adviser Andy Levett and Evangelism Team Leader Tina Hodgett. Details of each event are below:
Saturday, 16 March – Morning launch event (Bath Archdeaconry area)
09:45 for 10:00 until 12:00 – St Nicholas Church, Nore Rd, Redcliffe Bay, Portishead, Bristol BS20 8EN

Outdoor Church Hub is the third of our newly established hubs for practitioners of experimental worship and ways of being church. It follows the successful launch of Messy Church Hub in June 2018 and Café Church Hub last September. “The idea behind the hubs is about bringing together groups of people already involved all these wonderful and diverse ways of worship and being church to affirm each other and to learn from each other: to find out what works, what doesn’t and swap tips and experiences,” says Revd Tina Hodgett, Evangelism and Pioneer Team Leader.
“The aim is a really energetic and dynamic exchange of ideas and building of grass-roots networks and relationships where we support and encourage each other and develop our creativity and confidence,” Tina adds.
Session leader, Revd Dr Sally Welch is an Anglican priest in Oxford and author of Outdoor Church. Sally will be inviting you to take part in an Outdoor Church experience, exploring outdoor worship, considering creation spirituality and building a labyrinth.
