In the autumn, we start several courses for lay people. Time and again lay people tell us that it was a nudge from clergy or Readers that started them on the journey of exploring their faith and calling, through different courses. Your encouragement and guidance is key for those who might otherwise imagine God wouldn’t be calling them. Courses are also often an important way of gaining the confidence to put faith into action.
New Exploring Christianity and Exploring Spirituality courses will begin in the Autumn. Exploring Christianity is for those wanting to learn more about the Christian faith and the Bible and past attendees have found it has really enriched their understanding of their faith. We are hoping to start new groups in Bath, Yeovil, Bridgewater, Shepton and Portishead areas and wherever else we can find sufficient tutors. Exploring Spirituality is more experiential and gives the opportunity to develop prayer life by engaging in the rich traditions of the church. There is a day course run on Thursdays in Wells and evening courses in Burnham-on-Sea and Yeovil areas.
Lay Worship Assistant and Lay Pastoral Assistant courses provide training for lay people to be involved in these important aspects of the church’s ministry. Both courses can be undertaken just for interest and are designed to be run by the Deanery using Diocesan materials. Both courses have been rewritten this year. The diocese also offers an 8 week course Exploring Chaplaincy and a year long Certificate in Pioneer Ministry
We hope that there might be people who you could encourage by suggesting they try one of these courses. If you would like to know more, please look on the lay training section of the diocesan website Or contact Elizabeth Harper 01749 685115
If you would be interested in being a tutor for one of these courses, or know someone who might be, please get in touch with Elizabeth as we are aiming to increase our pool of trainers.
