On Thursday 11 July, 121 Year 6 pupils from six local Primary Schools gathered at St John’s Parish Church in Wellington for what’s become an annual day of celebration for those moving from Primary to Secondary School.
The day hosted and led by Wellington Churches Together saw children from Beech Grove, Langford Budville, Rockwell Green, Wellesley Park, West Buckland and St John’s Primary Schools joining together to take part in a range of activities inside and outside of the building, on the theme of ‘Journey’. This summer the Year 6 pupils were accompanied by ten Year 7 Transition Leaders from Court Fields School who joined the workshops and shared some of their experience of the past year.
The day began with Yeovil-based Oddments Theatre Company performing the first part of their version of the classic story Pilgrim’s Progress. After this the children moved around five creative workshops including drama, music, discussion, a reflective prayer space and large inflatable obstacle course on the church’s front lawn.
The day concluded with a final performance from Oddments Theatre, some lively singing led by Life Central Pastor Steve Jenkins and band, and a prayer of blessing by Rev Tim Treanor, Wellington Team Rector.
Go Team Adviser Andy Levett, who helped coordinate the day, commented “It’s been another really good day, a day full of hope! It’s great that the church and school communities can join together in supporting our young people.”
