Something to be sought

The Midsomer Norton deanery is in the Bath Archdeaconry and is just south-west of Bath. It consists of nine benefices, and there are 19 churches. Since the appointment of Revd Matthew Street as our Area Dean at the beginning of 2018, we have been spending time in getting to know each other. We now have an Annual Deanery Service, an Annual Deanery ‘Songs of Praise’ Carol Service, a deanery film (watch it on line), a Deanery Directory, giving details of who is who in the deanery, and the weekly publication of Deanery News. Looking ahead, we plan to continue getting to know each other with Synod members hosting celebratory meals to say thank you to Churchwardens, Readers and Retired Clergy, Treasurers and Secretaries, and we also plan an annual Clergy Swap Sunday. Members of the Deanery Mission and Pastoral Group (DMPG) are considering different ways the Deanery can support each other from next year onwards – Deanery Marriage Preparation Days and a Deanery Alpha Course are just two suggestions.

The Clergy Chapter meet regularly for prayer and refreshment, and as well we meet in three clusters for prayer. The DMPG meets four times a year and the Synod three times a year. Our Synod meetings are now regarded as being inspiring, and membership of the Synod is something to be sought, rather than doing a job no one else wants. Those who ‘sit in our pews’ are beginning to realise that we are part of a Deanery which supports each other in different ways, and especially in prayer.

As we seek to further our mission in different ways, we ask for your prayers for us.
