Issue 38 of Manna, ‘Caring for creation’ is out now
“The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say – we will never forgive you.” The strong words of young climate activist, Greta Thunburg at the UN Climate Summit, in September. If caring for creation is not already on your heart as a Christian then, in our own environmental adviser’s words, “It’s time to wake up.” Many churches across our diocese already have woken up, as you will see in our feature and it’s not too soon for our friends in Zambia, and other vulnerable countries, who are already being affected by climate change.
As climate activist the Revd Helen Burnett acknowledges, it is daunting facing the challenge ahead of us, which is why we have shared the steps of the Eco Church accreditation and stories of churches across the diocese taking steps to care for creation in their own way. I hope they prove inspiring and help you take some steps in your life – and in your church or community. It’s worth remembering what Andy Watts of Locking Castle says, “it’s better to be imperfectly active than perfectly inactive.”
