Catriona Galbraith has agreed to take on the role of Bishops’ Adviser for Spiritual Direction.
Bishop Ruth says, “Catriona brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to this role and we are delighted that she is willing to offer her gifts to the work of the diocese and in support of those seeking to deepen their spiritual life.”
The Bishops’ Adviser for Spiritual Direction is a voluntary role, working alongside the Spiritual Direction Advisory Group, which helps ensure that people across Somerset can access Spiritual Directors to accompany them on their journey of faith. Catriona brings both passion and experience to the role.
Catriona says, “My own spiritual explorations and conversations with God started through my love and practice of landscape painting, which still forms the basis of my life and spiritual practice today. During more than twenty-five years as a spiritual director, it has been my privilege to have met people across all traditions of the Christian faith, an experience I have found so rewarding and from which I have learned so much. The opportunity to be the Diocesan Adviser for Spiritual Direction is both exciting and challenging. Safeguarding, supporting and promoting the recognition of spiritual direction as a ministry in its own right will be central to my work.”
In addition, the Revd Joy Hawes, has been agreed to take over the role of Spiritual Direction Referrer for Central Somerset, taking over from the Revd Preb Paula Hollingsworth who has moved on to a new role at St Paul’s, London.
