Supporting the community with prayer and music

The Revd Richard Neill, Vicar of The Benefice of The Isle of Wedmore has been on his bike doing a series of cycle prayer pilgrimages. ‘On a wheel and a prayer’ Richard has been cycling around the different villages and hamlets which make up the Benefice of the Isle of Wedmore, stopping at 15 points points along the way to pray for those particular communities. People living along the cycle route  are sent a timetable ahead of time so they can join Revd Richard along the way.

Alongside all the many things that are taking place as part of the Wellington Team of Churches offerings during lockdown, have been their very own special hour of peace and calm each Sunday thanks to the wonderful piano playing of John Young. Live on Facebook at 7pm for an hour each week, John plays a selection of hymns and requested tunes from his front room. This week John will be thinking about hymns and reading for Pentecost Sunday. The Area Dean for Tone, Revd Helene Stainer, says for many people it’s the highlight of their week.

“He has an amazing manner about him which means that you can relax, you can sing along, you can send him a message asking for a tune. It’s quite interactive, and it’s just lovely after a stressful week.”
