Diocese welcomes two new church schools

This term we warmly welcome two new church schools to our family; we now have 183 church schools in the Diocese of Bath & Wells.

The Two Rivers Church of England Primary School is being built on the Crest Nicholson’s Hygge development in Keynsham adjacent to the Wellsway School campus and it part of the Wellsway Multi Academy Trust.  Two Rivers refers to the confluence of the two local rivers Chew and Avon.  Although the building will not be completed until the 2021/22 academic year with a capacity for 420 pupils, the school has opened its doors in temporary buildings on the Wellsway campus. This year there are two classes which will gradually build up as is usual with new schools within a new housing development. The Executive Head is Annie Smart and the Head of School Wendy Carver. Due to Covid restrictions the school was not able to invite new pupils to visit before September so the teachers posted welcome story videos on line.

Our second new church school is Winsham Primary School a very small village school in Somerset which was a former community school although the diocese has always owned the land on which it sits. Interestingly there is mention of the school as a church school  in the 1906 Return (a national school type census)  but we are not sure what happened in the interim! Winsham Primary School is part of the Redstart Learning Partnership MAT led by CEO Suzanne Flack and the Head of School is Lindsay Gabriel, welcome back Winsham!
