Open to interpretation: sensing the connection from poetry to prayer

6th Jul : 10:30 to 12:00

Poetry is a form of communication using non-standard language and grammar, requiring interpretation. As such it can express something of the unique complexity of each human life beyond the limited power of the strictly applied standard lexicon and grammar primer. Poetry accepts us for who we are and has no choice but to start from where we are and let us build our meaning, in the sacred space between the reader and the text.

Together in this seminar, led by Revd David Weir, Rector of Exmoor, we will explore how Coleridge can help us pause for thought and express something of our life’s complexity and can this help us in our prayer.
