Exploring Faith

Exploring Faith is a new diocesan course to help you dig deeper into the Christian faith and reflect on how to live that faith out in action. In 2022 we are offering three subjects. We encourage you to take all three modules, but you are welcome to just do one or two which interest you. There is no need to commit at the start of the year. You can sign-up and pay for each module as you go.

How the course works

  • Learn on the go, at your own pace - materials are provided online via the Irish Bible Institute so you can log in and out whenever suits you best
  • Learn with others – engage in online discussions with other participants to share ideas and ask questions, and meet with a small tutor-led group (online or in person) once a week
  • Learn with support - your small group tutor is there to ensure you have a rewarding learning experience and to help you every step of the way
  • Learn to reflect – we will help you develop skills to put your learning into practice and root it in your own life and experience in the follow-up monthly sessions

How much does it cost?

Each module costs £25 to be paid in advance.

Ministry for Mission has a limited bursary scheme. Please contact the Administrator in confidence for more information.

Modules for 2022:

The Story of the Bible - Old Testament

A five week course starting in January, with a follow-up session in March.

Although the Bible is made up of 66 books written by numerous authors in different languages over centuries, it nevertheless has one great overarching story with many sub-plots running through it. In this module, we’ll think about the significance of that ‘big story’ and how the sub-plots fit within it.  This first module introduces the big narrative of Scripture and follows it through the Old Testament.

Interpreting and applying the Bible

A four week course starting in May with a follow-up session in June or July.

This module is designed to help us understand how to responsibly read, interpret and apply the Bible, and to encourage a desire to see the Bible change us and others. We hope that as you develop a better understanding of how the biblical writings function, it will lead you to engage with the Bible in a new and exciting way.

The Story of the Bible - New Testament

A four week course, starting in September with a follow-up session in November.

Our second Story of the Bible module picks up the biblical narrative with the coming of Jesus. As well as following the story through the New Testament, this module is designed to help you consider the personal and practical implications of finding your place in the story of Scripture. Whilst it may make more sense if you sign up for both Story of the Bible modules, you do not need to have completed the Old Testament part to join us for this one.
