Championing diversity

The Diocese of Bath and Wells seeks to provide encouragement and support to all those who want to explore lay and ordained vocation but who may feel they have not been well represented in the Church of England in the past. This includes, amongst others, those of United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (UKME)/Global Majority Heritage (GMH).

As a diocese we are actively working to achieve greater UK Minority Ethnic (UKME) representation within the Church of England here in Somerset. We also strongly encourage applications from UKME clergy who are considering applying for a job in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Revd Narinder Tegally is our UKME Champion.

Narinder will be delighted to answer your questions or provide you with support based on her first-hand experience and expertise.

Narinder was born in Punjab India and brought up as a Sikh. She became a Christian in her 20s. She is married and has three grown up daughters and three grandchildren. Before her Ordination in the Anglican Church, she was a Registered Nurse working in both Palliative Care and Mental Health for adults and young people.

God’s calling as a priest has led Narinder to serve in parishes in St Albans, Beaconsfield, Christchurch and Bath Abbey: as a Senior Chaplain at Grove House Hospice, the Royal Free and Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London. For Narinder, it is an enormous privilege to serve God and His people. His faithfulness and steadfast love have been present.

In Bath and Wells, Narinder is the Lead Chaplain, Staff Governor and sits on the Ethics Group, End of Life Steering Group, Volunteers Strategy Group, Health and Wellbeing Group, Equality and Diversity Group. She is an Associate Priest at Bath Abbey and Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands and the UKME Officer for the Diocese of Bath & Wells.
