Terms of Reference

Membership

  • The Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE) or their appointed representative
  • Between three and five members of DBE with a particular interest and/or expertise in school improvement
  • School Improvement Adviser(s)
  • Director of Education or Deputy Director of Education (ex officio)
  • DMAT Director when appropriate

Key Purpose

Within the DBE’s agreed strategy for school improvement:

  • To oversee the fulfilment of diocesan responsibilities for school improvement
  • To monitor Religious Education, Collective Worship and spirituality in schools through SIAMS reports
  • To oversee the collecting of SATs data from all Church schools and to scrutinise results which indicate that a Church school/academy is not meeting national standards
  • To provide information and proposals to the DBE/relevant sub-group in respect of concerns which exist at particular schools
  • To receive regular reports from school advisers on schools of potential concern
  • To provide advice and assistance to Church school governing bodies and to manage school governance issues
  • As far as possible, to ensure all Church schools/academies are fully compliant with Safeguarding and Child Protection practice and procedures in line with national guidance, designated lead staff are fully trained in their responsibilities and all school staff are aware of their individual responsibilities

Pattern of meeting

Three times per school calendar year.
