The neglected Anglican Innovators of a @Spiritual but not Religious' Age

Join the author Jane Shaw for a four-week online discussion of her book in which she will explore the work of four writers, Evelyn Underhill, Reginald Somerset Ward, Percy Dearmer, and Rose Macaulay. During the early part of the twentieth century, each of them was engaged in and influenced by a revival of spiritualty. Their thinking is not however confined to that period. In different ways each of them has gone on to influence the search for spiritualty, and that has much to inform contemporary thinking.

‘Yes, their presumptions about many things were very much of their age, but their questions have surprising echoes with our own preoccupations a hundred years later’ writes Professor Shaw. Taking a writer each week Prof Shaw will explore both what they contributed to their own age and ask some questions about the issues faced in the development of contemporary spirituality.

The four-week course will cost £20 and the book will be available, with a 10% discount, from the Church House Bookshop to those who register to join the discussions.

The Very Revd Professor Jane Shaw is Principal of Harris Manchester College, Oxford, Professor of the History of Religion and a Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Oxford. She was previously Dean of Religious Life at Stanford University USA, Dean of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, and Dean of Divinity at New College Oxford.
