Glebe land

The diocese glebe land totals circa 3,000 acres and extends across Somerset and North Devon including Bath, Wells, Exmoor, Taunton, Yeovil, Bridgwater and surrounding areas. English glebe land was historically owned by the incumbent minister. In 1978 the Endowments and Glebe Measure 1976 came into effect, changing the governance and ownership of Glebe land by transferring it to the Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF). The glebe land of the Diocese of Bath & Wells consists of a mix of agricultural, commercial, recreational and residential land and property. The income from glebe land, most commonly rental income or proceeds from sale, is reinvested so as to provide continuous income and return to the Diocesan Stipend Fund.
