“And Jesus said to them, ‘Go into the world and preach the good news to all creation.’”
Mark 16.15
Who are Local Preachers?
Local Preachers are individuals called by God to share the message of Jesus Christ within their own church and community. Entrusted with the ministry of preaching, they offer teaching and encouragement with clarity, compassion, and integrity. Rooted in scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit, Local Preachers communicate the gospel authentically, drawing on their own faith journeys and the life of their community.
A ministry of trust.
Local preaching is a trusted ministry.
A Local Preacher:
- hears God’s call to proclaim the gospel locally
- listens to God and to their context, offering hope and insight
- embodies Christ’s message with integrity and compassion
- is aware of the dangers of spiritual abuse and
- is committed to seek to encourage and never control.
Exploring the call
Becoming a Local Preacher often begins with a growing awareness to share God’s word through the ministry of preaching. This may emerge after being asked to lead prayers, read Scripture, or offer a short reflection in worship; moments that spark a deeper sense of purpose. Others may feel encouraged by their minister or fellow church members who recognise gifts for preaching before they do themselves.
And just as a reminder
Local Preacher training is a part of the Lay Ministries Pathway which is a flexible and responsive approach to training people called to lay ministry. Instead of asking the question “What course shall I do?”, it begins with a question of calling:
"What is God calling me to do, and what do I need to be equipped for it?"
"What is God calling you to do, and how can we support and equip you?"
Might this be the ministry you are being called to?
