Parish Giving Scheme one-off gifts

The ability to handle occasional gifts makes PGS an efficient ‘one-stop-shop’ for online giving.

PGS one-off giving presents a convenient mechanism for those who cannot commit to regular giving on the first of the month or who may wish to add to their regular giving at any time. Visitors familiar with PGS are able easily to give to any church registered with PGS. The Parish Giving Scheme is able to reclaim Gift Aid where instructed to do so.

A giver can use PGS to make a donation online to any church registered with PGS, either by using their individual PGS account, or as a guest. PGS passes on these gifts to churches monthly, net of transaction fees*, and supports the payment with a concise monthly statement.

How to make a one-off gift

Simply log on to www.parishgiving.org , select ‘Give’, identify the church, and follow the prompts for ‘One-off gift’ to donate using a debit or credit card or smart phone wallet.

Benefits for churches

If your parish is registered to use the Parish Giving Scheme for regular giving, PGS can also accept one-off donations on your behalf. When publicised appropriately (QR code on printed materials and links in the church web pages etc) there may be no need for a church to have a separate online giving facility. A single monthly payment to the church for all one-off gifts means tidy bank statements and reduced administration. PGS effortlessly claims the Gift Aid for the church even from occasional givers and visitors.

Like other one-off transactions made online or via a contactless card reader, gifts made this way incur a small transaction fee, in this case 1.5%. The fee is deducted from the gift, meaning the church receives the gift net of the fee. So, a church will receive £9.85 on a £10 gift, but the fee is deducted before the church receives the gift. Gift Aid, if to be claimed, is on the £10 gross gift.
