Most works to church buildings, contents, or grounds require approval under Faculty Jurisdiction. Minor works may fall under Lists A & B, which allow for simpler permissions.

Faculty and List B Permissions
Key Steps for Applications
- Use the Church of England Online Faculty System to submit applications.
- Petitioners need to register on the online faculty system. To register please follow this link. This will sent to the DAC team for approval. Please ensure to select the name of the church.
- For assistance on preparing statements of significance and need, please use the Church Buildnings Council website.
- Check with your local council as to planning permissions before proceeding.

Understanding Faculties and List B Permissions
Some changes can be approved under List B, while others need full Faculty approval.
What is List B?

Covers minor repairs and like-for-like replacements (e.g., replacing roof tiles, fixing drains, restoring an existing feature).

Requires Archdeacon approval, but no DAC review.

Applied for via the Online Faculty System.
