6 steps

As we become and increasingly cashless society, many people find it more convenient to give by simply tapping their card. It is also easy to implement contactless giving in your church, which allows people to give in person using their card or smart device at a donation unit. Research in the wider charity sector suggests that people typically give three times more via contactless than they do via cash giving so it is a giving mechanism that is well worth the time invested.

  1. Establish connectivity
Confirm whether you have a wifi connection or mobile signal available within your church building. If you are unsure you can request a mobile signal survey by emailing givingteam@bathwells.anglican.org.
  2. Choose your device
Look at the choosing your device section below, and consider which is right for your context based on connectivity, intended use, and whether it will be supervised. Once you have selected your device, you can choose to order directly or use the diocese's 'try before you buy' scheme, further details about this scheme can be found below.
  3. Set up your digital giving account
Depending upon the device chosen, create the necessary digital giving account - or accounts - to ensure that donations are paid to you directly. A step-by-step guide to creating the most commonly used accounts can be found on the Parish Buying website. Register with Parish Buying or log in to your account. After reviewing the options on the Parish Buying page, if you are unsure what account you require please email givingteam@bathwells.anglican.org.
  4. Take delivery and installation
Ask the Giving and Funding team for set up advice and support for your chosen device.
  5. Start accepting donations
Inform your congregation and visitors of your new giving method, with clear signage, promotion via your social media accounts and website, and newsletters and service sheets, as well as announcements at services and special events.
  6. Track and report
Utilise the device’s reporting features to monitor and manage donations effectively. For advice and support on how to do this please email givingteam@bathwells.anglican.org.
Try before you buy

We know that some churches may be considering using a contactless device but are fearful of doing so without knowing that the initial investment in purchasing a device will be recovered. To help overcome this barrier, your church can trial a device from the diocese for a period up to three months, then review its impact before deciding whether to go ahead with a purchase.

If you are interested in trialling a device, please follow the six steps to contactless giving to identify a suitable device and create any digital giving accounts necessary. Then contact the team to arrange your trial period.

Choosing your contactless device

There are a wide range of devices available for parishes with and without wi-fi or mobile connectivity. To secure the most competitively priced device, as a diocese we recommend purchase via Parish Buying. Register with Parish Buying or log in to your account to access further information about all of the contactless devices available to parishes at this time, as well as details of the competitive rates. When you are logged into your Parish Buying account you can directly access those details on their contactless devices page.
