We launched our New Housing Hub on 18th June 2019 with a day conference in Taunton where lots of new housing estates are being built. Revd Ali Boulton of the Baptist Association, leader of the national New Housing Hub, was the keynote speaker, and there were excellent contributions from some of our diocesan new housing pioneer missioners from Weston-super-Mare and Taunton, who shared information about their differing contexts and how that had shaped their mission approach. They shared their learning and their hopes for the future. Read more about the launch here.
This Hub acts as a gathering space for people across the diocese and the south west to consider how we can to respond to the challenge of all the new housing being built under government initiatives across the area. We ask questions such as:
- How can we demonstrate the love of God to people at this exciting but challenging time in their lives?
- What is God up to in this space? Is it different from what we might expect? And how do we join in?
- What would a church presence look like in this area?
- Can we engage with the local authority, the developers and the community so that the new build areas becomes a place of human flourishing?
The Diocesan New Housing Hub is linked with the national network and the next regional conference takes place in Exeter on Saturday 14th March 2020. Visit the New Housing Hub website or their Facebook page for more information.
