Family Max offers clergy families more than just a fun day out

"Can we go again next week?" was the question from one clergy family who attended the annual Family Max day, back for a second year at Mendip Activity Centre last weekend (10 June).

Eight clergy families with children of various ages joined the Go Team at the outdoor centre just outside of Churchill for dry slope tobogganing, Archery Active (like playing bows and arrows with marshmallows on the end!) and a picnic lunch around the campfire.

The day supported with a grant from the Clergy Support Trust, allowing the cost to be subsidised, was enjoyed by all those who attended. As well as being a fun day of activities for the children, Family Max has proved to be a great connection point for their parents too.

Andy Levett from the Go Team commented, "Our original thought for this event was to introduce younger children to Life to the Max, our weekend for 11-17s from clergy households, but it has highlighted the importance of bringing together clergy families with children and providing a day where they can be just that – a family."

Comments on social media seemed to say it all:

‘We had a lot of fun! Thank you.’
‘Thank you for a brilliant day!!’
‘Thanks, team, for loving us all in this way. The kids had a fabulous time.’
‘This was a tremendous day! Thank you so much @GoTeamAdvisers @BathWells for arranging it and also to @ClergySuppportUK for their support.’

Rev Dan Crouch, who attended with his wife Sarah and two daughters, added, "The opportunity to spend time together as a family having fun away from the demands of ministry was so valuable. The children loved the time with their parents and others and want to go again next weekend!"
