Through the creation of a new stained glass window designed by renowned Bath-based artist Neil Ireson, Bath Abbey will celebrate the life of Saint Alphege, a Christian saint who was born in Bath in 953, became Abbot of Bath Abbey in the early 980s and Archbishop of Canterbury in 1006.

Two of our newest churchwardens share what made them follow the call to undertake their new role
The community of St Catherine’s Church, Montacute, has been told by experts that it may be home to one of the oldest working timepieces in the country, follow a recent assessment that dates its clock back to the 1400s. Originally believed to have been made in the 1600s, around the time of the Reformation, the clock’s historical significance was uncovered during a restoration assessment in 2024.
Major transformation works, funded by the a grant from the Archbishop's Council, means the previously costly to run and difficult to heat rectory is now a net zero carbon property.
Churchwarden praises everyone's hardwork and determination saying, "Nothing is too hard or impossible if it is in keeping with God’s will and for His glory."
The lunch organised by Wells SOUP! was supported by more than 100 people and helped boost the funds and profile of four local charities and organisations
The £312,850 grant fund pot has been created from a number of sources, including the national church’s Buildings for Mission project and the Net Zero Carbon Quick Wins grant scheme.
