Baptism in the River Frome

27th August 2021

In early August five adults from Frome Deanery were baptised, in the River Frome. The baptisms followed in the footsteps of Wesley who came to Rode and also carried out baptisms in the River Frome, close to the spot where the August service took place.

The stretch of the river at Rhode, runs through farmland and the farmer who owns the land was happy to give his permission for the baptisms to take place. So, donning a wetsuit Revd Caroline Walker, Rector at Hardington Vale, went into the water first. She was joined, one by one, by those to be baptised.

40 friends, relatives and church members also joined the celebration from the river bank and for those who were unable to attend, a video was made for them to enjoy at a later stage.

Speaking after the celebration, Revd Caroline said, "God is good and it was a wonderful celebration of their commitment to follow Jesus."
