Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5: 11)
At the begining of June, Holy Trinity, Frome launched a weekly after-school Lego club called Brick Buddies which is now running through the school holidays as well as term time due to its popularity. The goal of the club is not only to provide an engaging, creative outlet for children and families, but to build friendships and connections with the wider community.
Each week, the group enjoy refreshments together and watch a short Bible story animation before participating in an optional building challenge based on the story. So far, the builds have included the tower of Babel, Noah’s Ark, the walls of Jericho, the Ark of the Covenant, the well where Jesus met a Samaritan woman, the home where a man was lowered through the roof to Jesus (complete with a working winch!), and the pyramids of Egypt! Children have also enjoyed creating pony paddocks, gardens, moonscapes, spaceships, supercars and seascapes!
Brick Buddies is seen as a wonderful opportunity to build friendships and a sense of community within the church setting, especially for those who may not be involved with church regularly. It’s a great way to encourage families to engage with one another through shared activity where parents and children express their creativity together. It also helps to foster intergenerational relationships. Lego’s timeless attraction appeals to builders and helpers of all ages, who are able to share their enthusiasm and build together. The group is open to anyone from aged 4 to 104!
It’s also a great way to connect children from local schools who meet and make friends. At least four different schools have been represented so far at Holy Trinity, where the children find it incredibly exciting to dig through a box of Lego together and unearth all sorts of treasures to add to a build, often coming back the following week to add more to their creations!
It is Holy Trinity’s prayer that God, who is the builder of all things, (Hebrews 3:4) will not only build a community of Lego enthusiasts, but draw each member to Himself through fun and friendship, brick by brick.
Brick Buddies runs every week from 3.30pm on Tuesdays at Holy Trinity Church, Frome. The event is free and there is no need to book. Contact Annie Herridge at annie.herridge@holytrinityfrome.com for more details.
