1st April 2022

Churchfield Nursery, part of Churchfield Church School, Highbridge, was rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by inspectors who reported that, “The excellent environment ignites the children’s curiosity and motivates their eagerness to want to become independent learners. Staff skilfully inspire, nurture and guide children during activities, expertly extending and challenging their development.

“They are given consistent boundaries, while having excellent choices, with a very strong emphasis on respecting all living things. Through new initiatives and training, staff provide expert support for children to learn to manage their emotions.”

The report said the ‘children’s behaviour is exemplary’ and noted they arrive ‘full of enthusiasm’. It also praised the senior management team led by Rebecca Lihou, for ‘empowering their enthusiastic staff’ and for “focusing strongly on staff well-being, recognising the positive impact this has on children. They understand the importance of early years education to build firm foundations for life-long learning. They very effectively engage with their community and understand families' needs to ensure every child has the same outstanding opportunities.”

Director of Education Diocese of Bath and Wells, Ed Greggory said, “The report makes for inspiring reading with comments on exemplary behaviour, the richness of the learning experience and the tremendous care for the children, not to mention the extension and challenge offered to enhance learning and social development.

"Recent years in education and early years have, been a tremendous challenge. This report shows how such challenges can be met and overcome with genuine, shared passion and dedication to providing the very best opportunities for the children.”

This inspection follows a Ofsted inspection for the whole school which described Churchfield Church School as a school where pupils ‘love learning’ and where staff are ambitious for all children.
