The Diocese of Bath and Wells is preparing to welcome Fiona Gibson as the new Bishop of Taunton.
Michael Beasley, the Bishop of Bath and Wells says, “We are very much looking forward to two wonderful celebrations in the next week as we prepare to welcome Fiona to our diocese. Many people from Bath and Wells will be making the journey up to London to witness her consecration, and all are welcome to share in the joy of her arrival at Wells Cathedral when she officially becomes Bishop of Taunton. Please hold Fiona and her family in your prayers as she prepares to take this exciting step in her ministry journey.”
Fiona will be consecrated on Friday, 6 February 2026, at 11:00 in Southwark Cathedral. The consecration service is when Fiona becomes a bishop. During the service, other bishops lay their hands on her head as a sign that they are passing on their authority, and Fiona makes promises to serve faithfully and follow the Church’s teachings.
Following her Consecration, she will be officially welcomed into the Diocese of Bath and Wells at the Choral Evensong at Wells Cathedral on Sunday, 8 February at 15:00. The installation marks the beginning of Fiona's ministry in our diocese as the Bishop of Taunton. All are welcome to attend.
Fiona's Consecration will be livestreamed via the Southwark Cathedral YouTube channel
