More than 6,000 people from over 70 schools across all parts of the diocese came together for the third online collective worship with Bishop Michael. It was an opportunity to worship and celebrate as one.
Reflecting the 2026 year of prayer the worship focused on prayer and when pupils were asked to share via the online chat, ‘Why do we pray’ and ‘If you could talk to God today, what would you say?’ the responses flooded in. The responses reflected the young people’s hopes, joys and concerns.
Here are a few of the responses:
• to end all wars
• to say thank you for our families
• to thank god for giving us a beautiful world
• ask for support if you are going through something bad
• to fix a broken arm
• Why can't we see God?
• to make me brave
• to fix the potholes
• to rebuild the world
• to bring peace and no more racism
• to bring an end to pollution and protect the planet
• can we have some luck for maths today?
• please make my lambs survive
• how can I make a difference in peoples lives?
Speaking after the service Cheryl Govier, Assistant Director (Education and Leadership) for Bath and Wells said, “This week saw only our third online Collective Worship with Bishop Michael and we continue to be amazed at how this is growing. It was a joy to welcome schools from across the Diocese, from rural to urban, big and small, for this collective act of worship.
“Our theme this time was 'prayer' to link in with the especial year of prayer in the Diocese, as ever, the children's responses blew us away and the chat went wild as we encouraged schools to respond. We look forward to Bishop Fiona being with us in July for our next online Collective Worship."
