Thy Kingdom Come 2021

5th May 2021

With the great challenges faced by so many over the last year, the various Thy Kingdom Come resources have been redesigned to be a real help in the current times, with resources for a gathered, online, or hybrid approach, for use in churches, schools or in the home. There is also a huge free resources giveaway for local churches. Whatever age or tradition, there are resources that will spiritually nourish and encourage all.

Now in its sixth year, Thy Kingdom Come has grown from an initial call to prayer from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Anglican Communion, to a worldwide ecumenical prayer movement uniting Christians across the globe. What started in 2016 has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer now has churches from more than 80 different denominations and traditions in 172 countries. Together, people from across the world are praying that the Holy Spirit will inspire and equip us to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with our friends and families, our communities and networks.

Thy Kingdom Come runs between Ascension and Pentecost from 13-23 May. During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:

  • Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus. We pray that God’s Spirit might work in the lives of 5 friends who have not responded with their ‘Yes’ to God’s call. It is our prayer that those who have not yet heard the Good News of Jesus Christ and his love for the world will hear it for themselves, and respond and follow Him.
  • Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness.

New resources available, include:

  • 11 Video Youth reflections produced in partnership with the Archbishop of York’s Youth Trust and an Escape Room resource for young people. An updated Digital Family Prayer Adventure Map
  • Cheeky Pandas resources (11 part series & accompanying resources)- for children aged 3 and over
  • The Prayer Journal
  • The Novena – Praying the Psalms from Ascension to Pentecost (A large print version is also available)
  • There are also 100,000 free copies of this year’s Prayer Journal, written by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell and the printed Digital Family Prayer Adventure Map for children. Only need to pay for P & P.

As part of Thy Kingdom Come 2021, Christians across Somerset are being invited with others in the South West to form a chain of prayer along the 630 miles of the South West Coastal Path. The event on 19 June is being organised by South West Awake. Individuals and groups can chose a prayer point along the coastline so that everyone can pray together as one and stand united in asking God for His Kingdom to come in the region.
