St Bart's engages with four themes of Lent

24th March 2022

St Bartholomew’s Church of England First School in Crewkerne are spending a day off timetable to join in with ‘Knowing You, Knowing Me, Knowing God’, our Lent 2022 campaign. They have taken the four themes of welcome, hospitality, inclusion and generosity and created a day’s worth of activities for the children to engage with to help them explore the four themes.

In amongst this, they have considered how they might feel if they were a refugee and what a warm welcome might look like, bringing the conflicts and crisis in Ukraine into focus.

The school sponsors a child through the charity Compassion UK and as part of the day, they considered Digong and how they might offer him hospitality if he were to visit their school. The children will be introduced to 1 Corinthians 12, being reminded that we are all part of the body of Christ and that God created us in His image as equals – even though we’re different.

Through videos, art and conversation, the children at St Bart’s have been immersed in a range of imaginative and thoughtful activities. Using art to explore inclusion, one of the pupils, Harry said, “Every flower is beautiful. It doesn’t matter what colour, size or height it is. They are all special and beautiful.”
