Children receive a fun introduction to weddings

30th October 2023

Just before the half-term break, Year 3 students from Eastover School came together to create a heartwarming make-believe wedding at St. John's Church in Bridgwater.

The young participants embraced their roles, including a bride and groom, proud parents, witnesses, bridesmaids, and best men. The pretend wedding was beautifully documented by photographers and videographers.

As the guests gathered in the church, the young bride, escorted by her father, walked down the aisle to the enchanting tune of The Bridal March.

Everyone joined together to sing "One more step" before proceeding with the ceremony which included the exchange of vows, rings and a cheerful declaration by Revd Lis Sparrow, who pronounced them "pretend husband and wife, well until lunchtime." Followed by a spirited rendition of "Sing Hosanna" and the signing of a marriage certificate.

This imaginative event not only brought delight to the children but also imparted a valuable lesson on the significance of weddings and the role of the church.

In the words of Revd Lis Sparrow, Vicar at St. John's Bridgwater, "A joyful morning was had at St. John's for all involved, and the children learned a bit about weddings and the role the church plays in them today."

After the service, the couple and their guests headed back to school for a celebratory reception, featuring the promise of a delicious cake.
