Distinguished educator key speaker at School Leaders Parish Partners' Conference

Paul Rusby is one of two guest speakers at the School Leaders and Parish Partners' Conference to be held in Wells in March this year. Organised by the diocesan Education team, the day will focus on ‘Our school, our legacy’ and the importance of and value of spiritual leadership for schools, churches and communities in the 21st century. The conference is open to school leaders and members of the clergy who work with church and non-church schools. The day long conference will be run on 14 and 15 March, there is an opportunity to join on either day. 

Paul is an educator with over three decades of experience. His extensive career spans twenty years as headteacher across three Church of England schools, earning him accolades such as the Teaching Award's Headteacher of the Year for the North East. He has played key roles as a National Leader of Education, Primary Consultant Leader, and School Improvement Partner, with a deep commitment to fostering the growth and well-being of both students and educators in Church of England schools.

He is a member of the National SIAMS Quality Assurance inspection team, Diocesan consultant, school governor, and NPW facilitator and coach. Paul has a deep interest in spirituality. Blending together his theological training, SIAMS experience and leadership roles in schools, Paul provides school improvement coaching and consultancy support. In his role as a retreat leader, he integrates poetry, music, meditation, and landscape into quiet days, nurturing spiritual growth.

Dr Margaret James, will also be a guest speaker at the conference. Margaret is the first National Director of SIAMS for the Church of England with a genuine passion for successful Church schools is also one of the key speakers at the conference. She is an experienced leader within Church of England education and has worked in school, local authority, diocesan and national education leadership roles for approximately 20 years. Margaret has been pivotal in creating the new SIAMS framework and will be exploring spiritual leadership in the context of our Church schools, fully aware that School Leaders reflect a wide range of spiritual and faith perspectives.
